Leading Denver plumber provides support for nonprofits year-round through social media

Donations to nonprofits tend to spike during December due to the Christmas holiday. But for High 5 Plumbing, a family-owned and operated plumbing company serving residents in the greater Denver metropolitan area, their dedication to charitable giving lasts all year long thanks to its High 5 Cares program.

High 5 Plumbing has donated nearly $90,000 to local nonprofits through their “High 5 Cares” program.

In 2023 alone, High 5 Cares donated over $16,780 to nonprofits in and around the Denver area. Over the course of the program, the leading plumbing company has donated over $88,431 since the program started in 2018.

“Giving back is about more than donations,” said Levi Torres, co-owner of High 5 Plumbing. “It’s about showing your community partners that you care and providing support to those who have supported you. When we first started High 5 Plumbing, we always knew that giving back would be one of the pillars we stood on. High 5 Cares provides us with an avenue to do that.”

The High 5 Cares program was created to shine a spotlight on different nonprofits throughout the year with the use of social media. High 5 Plumbing donates $3,000 to the selected nonprofits in addition to funds generated from employee donations and the profits of the High 5 clothing line.

This year’s nonprofits included a variety of organizations who had previously been featured by the program including:

  • International Hearing Dog Inc. (IHDI) – IHDI’s mission is to empower individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing by purposefully training selected dogs to alert to sound.
  • Food for Hope – This nonprofit dedicates itself to delivering children from hunger in Adams County, Colorado. Their mission is to empower and strengthen the future of communities by providing nutritious food to children in need.
  • HopeKids – HopeKids provides ongoing events, activities and a powerful, unique support community for families who have a child with cancer or some other life-threatening medical condition.
  • Clothes to Kids of Denver – This nonprofit proudly provides new and quality used clothing in a boutique setting to Denver area students from low-income or in-crisis families, free of charge. Their vision is that all students will have the clothing they need to feel comfortable and confident.
  • Hope House Colorado – This organization provides free self-sufficiency programs to parenting teen moms. This includes educational assistance, healthy relationships and personal growth classes, licensed counseling, legal advocacy and financial literacy, and much more.
  • Advancing Warriors – Advancing Warriors is a ministry serving veterans, first responders and their families and communities to help them thrive in Christ. Their services equips these individuals for intentional growth toward wholeness, wellness and spiritual well-being though the development of a relationship with Jesus Christ.

“We love providing exposure to the nonprofits in our area,” said High 5 Plumbing co-owner Cassi Torres. “And it’s not just our leadership team. Many of our employees donate their bonuses and are willing to volunteer as well. High 5 Cares is an essential element of High 5 Plumbing, and we look forward to seeing it grow so we can provide even more support to our local charities.”

High 5 Plumbing offers a variety of plumbing services to residents in the Denver area, including repair and installation, drain cleaning, pump plumbing, piping, garbage disposal services, sewer line repair, gas plumbing, water heater installation and much more. In addition, the company offers 24/7 emergency services.

Associated Builders and Contractors reported today that its Construction Backlog Indicator inched up to 8.5 months in November from 8.4 months in October, according to an ABC member survey conducted Nov. 20 to Dec. 4. The reading is down 0.7 months from November 2022.

View ABC’s Construction Backlog Indicator and Construction Confidence Index tables for November. View the full Construction Backlog Indicator and Construction Confidence Index data series.

Despite the monthly increase, backlog is currently 0.8 months lower than at July’s cyclical peak. The sharpest declines over that span occurred among contractors with more than $100 million in annual revenues, who collectively reported fewer than 10 months of backlog in November for the first time since the second quarter of 2018.

ABC’s Construction Confidence Index readings for sales and staffing levels increased in November, while the reading for profit margins fell. All three readings remain above the threshold of 50, indicating expectations for growth over the next six months.

“A growing number of contractors are reporting declines in backlog,” said ABC Chief Economist Anirban Basu. “The interest rate hikes implemented by the Federal Reserve appear to be making more of a mark on the economy. Not only has the cost of capital risen over the past 20+ months, but credit conditions are also tightening, rendering project financing even more challenging.

“The good news is that certain interest rates have begun to fall in anticipation of Federal Reserve rate cuts next year, perhaps as early as the first quarter,” said Basu. “Still, 2024 is poised to be weaker from a construction demand perspective for many firms, especially those that depend heavily on private developers. Those operating in public construction and/or industrial segments should meet with less resistance on average.”

Note: The reference months for the Construction Backlog Indicator and Construction Confidence Index data series were revised on May 12, 2020, to better reflect the survey period. CBI quantifies the previous month’s work under contract based on the latest financials available, while CCI measures contractors’ outlook for the next six months. American Standard Water Heaters’ innovative Hybrd Heat Pump water heater was featured in a recent episode of Military Makeover airing on Lifetime TV.

The renovation of a home in Arlington, Texas included a new 50-gallon hybrid heat pump water heater. It replaced a similar size electric unit but offers more efficiency, built-in leak detection, Wi-Fi capability and other features that make it an important component to the renovation. Military Makeover features co-hosts Montel Williams and Art Edmonds.

The “Big Reveal” in the renovation of the home of Carlos Colón-Ruiz aired on Friday, Dec. 1 and included the segment on the hybrid heat pump water heater. The final episode of the series with Colón-Ruiz aired on Friday, Dec. 8. It will also re-air on Thursday, Dec. 14.

Joshua Goncalves, Product Marketing Manager for Ariston Group, outlined to Edmonds the features of the Hybrid Heat Pump water heater in the penultimate episode of the five-part series. “These are up to 400 percent efficient, his old tank was maybe 90 percent efficient, so they should see some serious money savings by going to this technology,’’ Goncalves said.

Ruiz, an Army veteran of the war in Afghanistan, received the Purple Heart from President George W. Bush after he suffered injuries that included loss of sight in one eye, hearing impairment, loss of two fingers and two paralyzed fingers.

As part of the renovations, workers installed modern landscaping and pavers, several safes and delivered new furniture. Colón-Ruiz and his family were also treated to a fishing trip.

American Standard Water Heaters Hybrid Heat Pump water heater is a new trend in residential hot water delivery. Hybrid heat pump water heaters take heat from the surrounding air and transfer it to water in an enclosed tank. During period of high hot water demand, the pumps switch to standard electric resistance heat.

The American Standard Water Heaters Hybrid Heat Pump water heater includes a 10-year limited warranty, an i-Memory self-learning habit algorithm, and is Energy Star listed and AHRI certified. It is available in 50, 65 and 80 gallon capacities.

“We’re excited to have the opportunity to work with Military Makeover on this project,’’ Goncalves said. “Mr. Colón-Ruiz should see consistent hot water and a significantly reduced energy bill thanks to the Hybrid Heat Pump water heater.”
