With the recently defined ASTM E3137/E3137M specification for Heat Meter Instrumentation, the stage has been set for the technology to become increasingly popular in North America.  Whether verifying system heating (or cooling) production or apportioning energy costs, heat metering has many practical applications.  Caleffi North America is proud to announce the 7504 Series CONTECA, a device that measures, calculates and records thermal energy and has auxiliary inputs to monitor water, gas or electrical meters.  To gain a foundational understanding of heat metering and its benefits, the January 2019 edition of idronics– Fundamentals of Heat Metering in Hydronic Systems – provides a timely resource.

“Caleffi is excited to provide for AHR 2019 show attendees a firsthand look at CONTECA.  We’ll be happy to discuss with you the technology and provide for you the complimentary idronics journal at Booth B4161”, offers Kevin Freidt, director of product management and technical support.

New for 2019, Taco Comfort Solutions’® 0018e high-efficiency, Bluetooth®-enabled circulator brings a new level of control to residential and light commercial hydronic systems.

The ECM-powered 0018e is a solution for contractors who want the durability, efficiency and simplicity of other Taco ECM circulators, while looking for more system feedback and control than has been previously available.

The circulator features Bluetooth communication to a mobile app.  This provides real time control, diagnostics and reporting, such as installation history, power consumption, performance and runtime.   The installer can select between multiple constant speed, proportional pressure, and constant pressure modes as well as activeADAPT™, Taco’s self-adjusting proportional pressure mode.

Among the innovative features that make the 0018e reliable and easy to install, Taco’s BIO Barrier® protects the pump from system contaminants, especially black iron oxide that otherwise tends to collect around strong ECM magnets.  Also, SureStart®, which automatically unblocks a locked rotor and purges air from the circulator.  The 0018e features 18 feet maximum head with a maximum flow of 16 GPM. It’s also double insulated, which eliminates the need for a ground wire.

Due to its energy-saving ECM design, the circulator qualifies for most state, regional, and utility efficiency incentive programs.  An integral flow check is included, and both two-bolt or two-way flange models are available.

Contractors who designs their systems with precision can now get a circulator with the performance and control to match. The 0018e will be available in the third quarter of 2019.

Hot-LinkPlus-e by Taco Comfort Solutions offers high-efficiency, intelligent domestic hot water recirculation ideal for retrofit applications. A dedicated return line is not required.

The HotLinkPlus-e combines a 006e3 ECM hot water circulator with Taco’s Hot-Link Valve and Smart Plug Instant Hot Water Control in one easily-installed package. The Hot-Link Valve, installed at the building’s furthest water fixture, sends cooled water back to the water heater so hot water lines remain hot.

The 006e3 circulator that comes in the Hot-LinkPlus-e package uses up to 85% less electricity than a conventional circulator. It has three performance curves to best match the application, and a setting selection guide to make the choice simple. The Smart Plug learns hot water usage patterns and delivers hot water when it’s needed, reducing energy use and extending the life of the water heater.

The entire package is compact, making it ideal for tight spaces. Multiple connection options are available. A temperature sensor is included.

ProPEX LF brass copper press fitting adapter are used to transition from copper fittings to Uponor PEX-a, in sizes covering 1/2″ – 3″. Uponor ProPEX lead-free copper press fitting adapters can be used in hot and cold potable water, radiant heating and hydronic piping systems.

With plumbing professionals looking for flameless solutions that make hybrid PEX-to-copper connections fast and easy, Uponor North America is answering the call with the launch of its industry-first ProPEX® copper press adapters in sizes from ½” to 3″.

Manufactured from high-quality, lead-free brass to meet all local and national potable-plumbing codes, these innovative press adapters reduce overall project timeline by an average of 71% (compared to sweat), don’t require new tools or processes, and are backed by Uponor’s 25-year transferable limited warranty.

This new innovation is available now throughout the U.S. and Canada – and it’s the only copper press adapter available in 2½” and 3″ sizes. It also incorporates a patented design for securely fastening the pipe and fitting together, eliminating the need for a stainless-steel ring.

“As PEX piping becomes more prevalent in commercial plumbing projects, design and installation professionals told us they needed a solution to quickly and confidently connect hybrid plumbing and hydronic piping systems,” says Doug Fulton, sr. director, Corporate Strategy and Segment Marketing at Uponor. “We’re excited to not only introduce our latest innovation, but also solve a key pain point for commercial installers.”
